Another beautiful morning in my zombie-filled farm
ZombFarm is a seemingly normal farming game until it gets dark. Developed by EastAsiaSoft, this quirky combination of farming simulation and zombie survival puts players in the shoes of a farmer-turned-survivor who must continue to grow crops, feed livestock, go fishing, and more.
ZombFarm delivers an interesting playstyle with its premise and how it eventually plays out as you manage your farm and defend it at night from waves of zombies. The pixelated and vibrant art style during the morning betrays the senses and perfectly fits casual farming with action-packed nights.
Farm, survive, repeat
Zombfarm helps you manage your pixel farm akin to games such as the Harvest Moon franchise and Stardew Valley, however, this is only the case during the day. With the sun’s support, you can navigate a colorful world filled with resources to gather to hopefully better the state of your farm and improve productivity while crafting gear and defenses. Planting and protecting is your goal before it gets dark.
At night, players scatter about trying to evade the zombies while defending their livestock, as they weather each passing night. The game’s premise is a great twist for the farming genre, it holds a variety of mini-games that improve your farm in various ways. However, the monotonous farm-forage-defend can be a bit repetitive after a while, especially with no deep characters to interact with in the apocalypse.
The lush forests, intricate farms, and massive city are all well-made and filled with activities that help you bolster defenses and continue your journey while keeping you entertained. Additionally, its 16-bit graphics and upbeat tone for the day sell the danger of darkened visuals at night, this, accompanied by the music and its swift switch depending on the night-and-day cycle brings the immersion to another level.
A welcome twist to the farming game genre
ZombFarm offers an engaging mix of farming simulation and zombie survival. The contrasting peaceful daytime farming with the frantic nighttime zombie defense creates a unique experience. While the art style and mechanics are charming, repetitive gameplay and the lack of deep character interaction may limit long-term appeal. Despite these drawbacks, the game’s innovative premise and quirky design make it a fun option for fans of both genres.
